Q & A: Is Video Right For My Website?

Q: Is Video Right For MY Website?

A: This is a great question we get asked regularly by our clients. The answer is yes! Blogs are a great way to keep your website fresh and relevant. Blogs give you a great place to showcase your knowledge and interact with current and potential customers.

Not sure what a Blog is? It is like a captains log on a ship. Think Star Trek with Captain James Tiberius Kirk, each episode included a captains log. The term is short for “Web-Log” which became Blog. Now’s here’s a fun fact, in the early 2000’s, I programmed and managed William Shatner’s blog for a few years. But, that’s another story.

Where were we? Oh yeah, why should you Blog?

If you use a simple Blogging strategy like ours, including a weekly schedule, Blogs can actually be fairly easy to maintain. Search engines like Google love websites with up to date, fresh and relevant content.

We have seen Blogs posts get a couple dozen readers a month. Seems like a low number. But, over time this adds up and becomes great. Think “compound interest.”

In the book The Success Principles, by New York Times bestselling author Jack Canfield quotes Ron Scolastico as saying, “If you would go every day to a very large tree and take five swings at it with a very sharp ax, eventually, no matter how large the tree, it would have to come down.”

Here’s a little formula that we wrote to show the benefit you would attain from blogging over just one year: (Number of blog posts a week) X (52 weeks) X (avg number of readers per post per year) = increase in website activity as a direct affect of having a Blog.

So if you write just 2 blog posts a week and if just 10 people read each post on a monthly basis you would gain an extra 12,480 visitors a year!
